Yahoo Answers
« on: May 13, 2010, 04:00:38 AM »
Hi all

I have found yahoo answers a very good source of targeted traffic. What's more you don't even need a web site to benefit, using Clickbank products may be best if you don't have your own sites.

You do need to write a good answer, and an almost "off-the-cuff" link though. I don't put links in all the answers as I like to mix it up and help where possible as well. What you are aiming at is 40 to 50% best answers for your posts (I'm nearly on 40%) so people read them.

Try and get in early before there are too many answers so you're near the top.
If you have a long affiliate link to put in, use something like www.tinyurl.com to shorten it and make it less obvious.
Make your answers comprehensive and informative where possible (helps get you the best answer and a good reputation)
Make most of your posts in a single area, health for example, so you look like an expert
Sneaky, but remember you can vote on your own answer as the 'best', so if no-one else bothers to vote, you will get the extra points!
When you do a search, make sure you re-search it using the boxes on the left and the "open questions" options (cuts out all the ones you don't want!
Don't be unpleasant about other postings and people - it's not only not nice, it'll get your posting removed and possibly your account closed.

Down side is until you have amassed 500 points, the links will not be active and people will have to copy and paste. Doesn't take long if you set your mind to it. Interesting place to hang out you'll be amazed at what some people want to know! You'll also be quite touched by some of the sadness out there.

If I think of anything I'll add to this, so please feel free to add your ideas as I've put this post here in the spirit of what the forum is about.

This is very useful, I myself use a plug in on my blogs that pulls from yahoo answers.  In this way, I am adding value on my blogs, and helping you as well.
I will be adding this "technique" as well to my repertoire.
Thanks

I used to write quite a bit for Associated Content, and to this day my highest ranking article came from a question on Yahoo Answers. It had to do with nightime urination, of all things. I also used to answer quite a few questions, but drifted away over time. Many people keep bringing it back up as a way to generate traffic and authority, so I should probably give it a try once again.

One way to make your affiliate link less obvious is to get a .info domain name, cloak it and then redirect it to your affiliate site. When someone clicks on it the address in the address bar will show your .info address instead of the affiliate link.  GoDaddy has cheap, .99 .info domain names and they also have a very good free cloaking redirect feature when you get your domain name with them.

I use this cloaked link on one of the affiliate programs I promote.  --Note the keyword phrase in the address--
www[dot] tradingpennystocksonline[dot]info and it shows up as a standard web address instead of the affiliate address. Plus, it looks a lot better than the "tinyurl" addresses.  ;D

Hi I have used the above cloaking method and it does work. Even so, you still at some point will be marked for spam. The way around it is many accounts and software that will let you post to Yahoo Answers using proxies.

What, so, just become better at spamming then?  :( :'(

Another way would be to have a blog which you use for writing answers, and write the answer on Yahoo, and link to your blog where you have a more complete answer with an affiliate link.  Put some links from other places, and you will start to get traffic from other people asking the same question.

A little bit more hassle, but worth it, plus you can put adsense on the blog, and get paid by people just LOOKING at the site, not having to buy anything.

Plus, in the long term it saves on buying lost of domain names, meaning that you won't have to get a new domain name for every answer that you want to give, just make another post.

All this assumes that you are allowed to put links to blog posts for Yahoo.

Yes, I recently started answering questions on Yahoo, following someone's post about this being a good idea. While you are level 1, your links are not live, though they can be copied and pasted. When it was appropriate I used a link to my own websites / blogs. Once I reached level 2, all my links becamse clickable, including the ones used when I was still level 1!  ;D

Hi just to clarify I was referring to those that are promoting Clickbank products. Adsense sites are much less likely to be marked. I have put up very detailed helpful answers with several links citing sources AND a link to a squeeze page and still been marked. Other times there has been no problem whatsoever. There are people who prowl through the answers looking for what they they think is spam and will mark you in a second.

You CAN make money in YA with tight niches but you have to be persistent. Some url shortening services are not allowed any more because of spam so keep that in mind.

About URL shortening, if you are serious about doing this kind of thing, then you have have your own website, and make your own url redirects.

But then, as I said earlier, all that means is that you become slightly better at spamming - as long as you are not adding valuable content to the discussion.

See my suggestion for two new programs, Instant Profit Wizard and Instant Article Marketing, in the New Product Ideas section of this forum.

To overcome the threat of being marked as spam I would have software rotate through answers, using different account names. Each rotation would answer different unrelated questions pointing to articles you wrote and are busy marketing as laid out in my postings mentioned above.  8)
