Tradeview,  8)  Are you the pro you mentioned?  I know you are a pro, but lots on the forum don't.  And you just insulted a lot of US!

              He-- No!
Or at least I hope Jon won't sell it to them.  No matter what you say Tradeview  8) Shablast beats Google all the way
for research.

HJ

I'll take the last one... Jon would be foolish not to sell it if Google came up with a price tag for it (he knows this).. after all, a truly good product would be worth millions.. if not billions.. and the whole point is to make money!  :-*

But more then that, if he for some reason let his emotions control his brains Google would simply find a work around and come up with their own answer. After all, they have some of the best programmers in the world working for them. The prudent thing to do would be to sell out. However, these sort of opportunities are extremely rare so I wouldn't hold my breath in anticipation.

I won't hold my breath, cause I know Jon will do whatever he thinks it best
for himself and his followers (if and when).

But, again I say 'Quit paying Google and see where your site stands!'  ???

It will still be on Shablast, but good chance it will drop tremendously
with Google!

Google is all about the money! ;)

Shablast may not be as widely used as Google YET, but give Jon time and I
believe it will compete with the major search engines.  Just cause it gives the
facts and nothing but the facts!

Have a great afternoon,

HJ

I suppose cheer leading has it's value but as I say I am a realist. I've been running searches with over TWO DOZEN SEARCH ENGINES.. only the tip of the iceberg.. all with good to great results.

As far as Google being "all about the money" tell us something new! No kidding. I go on walks with my little brother to relax but while I'm online I'm looking for the money. But FYI I've never paid Google a dime to rank on any search... I've never even sought their listing... ever... for any of my sites. I just don't make it hard for them to find me. So it's not true to say if Google isn't paid they won't give you space... this just is not true statement.

As for Shablast, right now it is but one of MANY search engines. It's in the 'maybe, maybe not' class. To truly standout (ie attract the really serious researchers and the likes) it will have to offer something more then all the other search engines... not just Google. It has to be really innovative and that is a tough call. It's not that I don't think it can't be done. In fact I think if anyone can do it Jon can pull it off and if he does.. if in fact it actually gets that sort of attention from the big players.. then he has a GOLDMINE that he will have to find a way to monetize JUST TO KEEP IT GOING. If it gets to that point I'd be glad to put it on all my sites.  8)

I never said that you had paid them, but in all probability the keywords used cost somebody a lot!

For my research purposes, Google sucks - Google is only good if you want to buy something, and
don't bother telling me I don't know how to use it, because I have serious doubts that you know
any more than I do about using Google.  I by no means, just fell off the train 'Been on it a while!'   ::)

I am on Google's first page in almost everything I do on line.  Just not the top of the page, and the
only way to get on the right side of the page is to pay for it!  You know that as well as I do.
I know I sound adverse to Google, but I am not - I too am a realist.  Google just does not serve
my purpose.

So what I am saying is that IF I use Google to research anything, the only research info I will get
without going to another site where SOMEONE IS SELLING SOMETHING first, is Wiki or a dictionary.

With Shablast, it gives me info on whatever I am looking for.  IE: how do you ???, what is ????, etc.
ZAP Shablast has the answers in front of my face.  Even if I don't know what a word means Shablast
tells me and without a lot of stuttering.

I hope it never becomes as Google is, it is definitely a research site for info.  And, yes I know
it also shows site that are selling, but NOT IF I QUESTION IT CORRECTLY!

Here's a shot of reality ... Google has 71% of the market.. 71%. Bing's cash-back offer has proven to be a flop and people interviewed on NPR state that before they even realize it they have already typed GOOGLE into their browser.

Many corporate geeks.. the hard core users.. will not use anything other then Google. Why? Because they find it the most useful search engine on the planet and Google just keeps on adding more and more features and extending itself further worldwide into just about every corner you can think of.

As I said, I've been searching various keywords through numerous search engines.. never limiting myself to just one.. and I can get good to excellent results consistently from nearly all of them!

If you find only Shablast to fit your needs then good for you... stick with it. But at 71% of the current market don't expect Google to fade away anytime soon. Jon has his work cut out for him.

P.S.: If Shablast can not be turned into a money maker I suspect Jon will not find it easy to keep going simply because he will have to devote his time to those projects which EARN HIM A LIVING. We've seen this before. Call me wrong.

"Just not the top of the page, and the only way to get on the right side of the page is to pay for it!"

OF COURSE.. no one is debating this. Google never hides their ads.. they LABEL THEM AS SUCH. And they've made it possible for millions of webmasters to earn money with their Adsense and AdWords programs.. including Jon!

I think what Jon is doing is great! I love it. I just don't see the big boys stepping out of the way anytime soon. And, as I say, if down the road they take serious notice of Shablast... well... it could be worth an empire to Jon.

Remember that cool tool, "GistWeb"? Great idea, but now it's rare a topic that brings up any information at all. I've even tryed to gist "Shablast".. "Too little content to create a summary".  ::)

It takes money to make the world go round.  :-*

Look at foolish me... I've been giving Shablast a try on some things I'm working on because I'm told it's the greatest... it's still loading while I type this meanwhile Google and Yahoo! both grabbed the information I needed.

Mmmmm... maybe I misunderstood and didn't realize you can't power-use Shablast?  ::)

You're beating a dead horse!!  ::)

No one else bothers to answer you, so you must like to argue with me!  That's OK by me just
don't expect to win~

They may be faster, simple because the info is not researching, it is just bopping up the 'WEBSITES'

No actually, as Shablast was hungup I was able to download some pretty good free eBooks.. updated versions actually.. of books I bought at Borders. These are 400 to 500 pages of information on program languages. I found them using GOOGLE.

Not one of the site I opened was a selling site. I think this is stretched out of proportion.

What I do like about Shablast is the ability to get up (when it works) a Summary page. That's kinda cool, but it's not always available. However, the way I work these search engines it's really a minor plus. I'll open the top 12 pages in Google, Yahoo, Ask, etc. and just flip through them real quick picking the pages I want to explore further. Sometimes I might have four computers being used at the same time like this depending on what I'm working on.

Shablast is "powered by Bing"... Google is a stand alone with far more resources. Once you actually begin exploring these resources (they are adding new ones on nearly a daily basis) you see how tough an act they are to follow for some one serious about researching.

To declare you will only use Shablast... well, as I said, go for it. But you're limiting what you can do.

As for "arguing" with you.. I don't think so. Women think you're arguing whenever you don't jump immediately for what they have to say. And hey, aren't you replying as well? I'm not out to change your mind at all. Why change? This reminds me of when people say drugs should be legal, that ALL drugs should be easily accessible. And I agree! Because the more these fools use drugs the better I look in the marketplace. After all, you can't be spinning on a high and get anything done, right? It's a great way to take out the competition. Just as when you are so willing to limit what you are willing to look at and to consider.

Tradeview, Not so cool.

I never 'declared I will only use Shablast'!! >:(  You said 'To declare you will only use Shablast'.  NOT ME!  YOU!  >:(

Also, I never limit what I look at or consider.  I use and will continue to use what works best for my purposes. Google, does
not suit my purposes with regards to writing...

You know as well as I do, why you post about how wonderful Google is.  They make YOU look good!  That is what you like

I use Google, and when I am sent free adword credits, of course I use the  free credits!  :)

Actually, this back and forth has been a very good thing for me because it's caused me to look even deeper into what can be done with Google and I discovered a great way to create content! So now I'm combining a few things Jon passed along with this discovery and it is proving to be extremely promising.

Dead horse huh?
